Lazy Days

Our plans to sleep in backfired- we were both up by 8:30. Today was a lazy day since our bus didn't leave until 6:30 that night.

Our first plan of action was to take advantage of the free kayaks offered by the Grapevine. It felt good to be on water again, even if stuck in awkward "fat boy" kayaks. We followed the river a little way in to town, but there wasn't much excitement to be found. We ended up turning around and literally floating all the way back.

After a quick lunch, and a round of scattagories(hey, I told you it was going to be a lazy day!) we headed back into town, only this time on foot. Our first stop was to pick up 60 cent ice creams at McDonalds-does this still count as fast food? A stop at the warehouse(the NZ equivalent to Wal-mart) and we decided to walk to one of the closer wineries.

Dry Hills wasn't very hilly, but this small, family owned vineyard definitely had dry wine. Even those wines we were used to being very light were much more dry then any other winery we had visited. This did not mean that their wines were any less delicious, just different.

We passed the rest of the afternoon reading/eating or watching The Simpsons with other backpackers. Last time I watched The Simpsons over-seas it was all in German! At least this time I can understand it! Finally, it came time to catch our bus. Tonight's Nakedbus to Nelson was a tiny little large van/very old shuttle/thing. We were the only two on this rickity shuttle and the poor driver had just lost his voice.  It felt extremely shady. None the less, we made it to Nelson, and are now enjoying the sound of rain pattering on the roof of Accents On the Park. This Gorgeous hostel has more of the feel of a high-end hotel then a back.packer's hostel. It was certainly a nice change after The GrapeVine!
