Ponderings

This is been tumbling around in my head all day, and since I'm currently an insomniac(it's almost 5 in the morning here, and I still can't sleep) I decided to write it out.

Saturday night Brittany, Ruth and I went to the UCanDance MJ party. The theme was Trash to Flash, so lot of people dressed up in some truly fantastic outfits. There was anything from Oscar the Grouch from Sesame Street to ball gowns crafted from tarps. The dance was fantastic, it's been three weeks since I've danced and I really did miss it.

However, there were two people  mockingly dressed as terrorists. At first I didn't think much of it, it's September 11th, I get it-even if I think it's a terrible joke. However, when we got back to our flat afterwards I started to think about it more, and  it really started to bother me. I realized that I'm used to the anti-American mindset(though I haven't encountered it at all here) sometimes I think we even deserve it. However, this went past that, this was mocking an event that killed thousands of people. Yes, I realize that there have been many tragedies that have killed just as many if not far, far more people all over the world. Far be it from me to say that Sept. 11 should be placed as worse then them, however I would never joke about these events. It doesn't matter what the politics are, what country it happened in, or how stupid/fat/rich/crazy the people who died are, I just find it extremely disrespectful to mock an event that was so devastating.

I'm not a political person, I'm not some yippee crazy that think's America is perfect and everyone else should follow by example- as most of the time I think just the opposite of that- I just feel that death is not something to make fun of, particularly when death is found so violently in calamitous events.

End of rant. Maybe I can sleep now-whoo, it's 5:30 in the morning! Tomorrow I promise a less serious post that is full of gorgeous pictures!
